This winter has been very mild and so far I haven’t had to deal with ultra dry flaky skin. Still I’ve come prepared and armed with all kinds of masks, oils, heavy creams and treatments. Usually by this time of the year I’m a slave to my heavy creams and though I’ve added heavy cream back into my skincare routine, I wouldn’t say I needed it but rather it was merely out of want.
Another thing I’ve become obsessed over is exposure to air pollution and free radicals. I never paid much attention to these harmful effects until recently when in Southern California we faced multiple fires. The fires left a thick smoke and rained ash in some areas that were close to the fire. It took weeks for the air quality to improve and even with multiple air filters running in my house and keeping the windows closed, it never felt like enough. I was left with a sore throat, a dry cough and saw negative changes to my skin too. I’m lucky that I don’t live near any highways or traffic congested areas but the smoke from the fires affected my body and skin.
Last but not least In the winter my hair gets dry, flakey and suffers from static. Haircare is something that I haven’t really talked about but it’s definitely something that I’m going to add into my beauty posts here since I’m secretly a hair care freak! I’m not going to include it in this post since these skincare edits are so long but write about it in a separate post. I love haircare products and own so many that they in fact rival my beauty products!
Alright now without further ado, here it is, my winter skincare edit.
I’m still using my own formula. It’s oil based and removes all my makeup and leaves my skin super soft and clean. I use it both morning and evening and love the glow it gives me. I’ll be giving more details about this when I get closer to releasing it!
I’m using Humphrey’s Organic Witch Hazel. It has an herbal scent that some may find unpleasant but I like this for it’s skin clearing benefits.
I’ve been trying out the B – Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel. It doesn’t really have any smell and the formula has a medium consistency. I like essences that are lighter in weight and texture but this was hydrating and did it’s job. Still I’m not sure if I’d buy this one again.
I’ve been using Sunday Riley’s Good Genes off and on depending on how my skin is doing and so far I’ve had good results. I use this on days when I don’t use retinols.
I’ve been using my own formula for awhile now and I love it. I’ve been using this twice a day in both my morning and evening routine. I’ll keep you guys updated and release more details soon!
I’ve been trying out Drunk Elephant’s Lala Retro Whipped Cream. This is definitely a heavy cream and would be good for combo or dry skin types. This doesn’t really have a smell but I think it smells like Pond’s Cold Cream if you’re familiar with that stuff. This can pill and bunch up so I don’t recommend this for daytime use. Save this for the evenings!
I’ve been using Shiseido’s WrinkleResisit24 Intensive Eye Contour cream. I used this before and took a break, tried some others and then went back to it. It keeps my undereye area moist (some may call this greasy lol) I like it because it lasts all night and keeps the area from drying out. I’ve gotten some of this below my eye area and it has caused breakouts but as long as you use it in the general eye area you should be fine. It has a light texture and glides easily.
I’ve said this before, It’s all about the Dr. Jart UV Sun Fluid! It’s only an SPF 30 but it doesn’t pill and glides on easily. It won’t leave a white cast and leaves a dewy sheen on skin.
I’m a lip product junkie and I’m constantly testing out new products. Right now I’m using Balm Dot Com in Coconut, Dr. Hauschka Lip Care Stuck (an old favorite) the Sephora Honey Lip Scrub is something new and when I first got it, it was amazing. It was gritty and did a decent job exfoliating my lips. However after awhile the only thing left in it was the balm! It’s as if only the top of the stick had sugar in it. Super strange and it might just be a bad batch so I might try this one again.
I’ve been using Glossier’s Moisturizing Moon Mask. I’ve been using this for almost a year now and while I suspect that it can cause me to breakout sometimes, it is moisturizing so I save this for when my skin is at it’s driest. I’ve been using Nuxe’s Clarifying Cream Mask and I love this stuff. It dries out completely but leaves skin so soft! It’s become one of my favorites.
